                                              Thursday Eve
The 6th I think
Hello Family,
My address is still Ft. Benning and you know the rest of the story. I know just one little fact about my moving though than I did before. We were told that we would ship between the 8th and the 14th. So by this time next week I’ll possibly be on my way. Maybe in a few more days I’ll know some of the details.
Of course you’ve seen in the paper that people with more than 45 points on May 12 will stay in the states. Well that just about does me up right. I only made it by a margin of two points. But on something like that I guess a miss is as good as a mile. Maybe I’ll get a break yet.
Before I forget it I want to tell you about something that you may be getting through the mail one of these days. There is a book containing the history of our regiment being made and I ordered one. It could either be payed for now or after it is published. That may be several months in the future and so  many things might happen that I decided to pay for it when they are finished. But I had to give an address and the only permanent one I have is Orestes. When the bill comes send in the four dollars. If I haven’t provided for it before it happens, don’t forget to remind me of it. That’s a good bit to pay for something like that but I hope it will be worth it.
It made me happy to get a letter from you yesterday. And since it was one of your longer weekend letters, there was a little extra reading and it made me just a little happier. After Labor Day I’ll bet that the garage looks a little more like the finished product. If you get the coal moved then it won’t be very long before you can put the car inside.
I think I finally got my books straightened up the other day. At least I hope so anyway. Since most of it would go into bonds anyway, it made little difference to me how they fixed it. There was less changing to be done to make it one $18.75 and one $7.5 bond. So that’s the way it stands now. If they keep coming as they have in the past, everything will be alright.
Well I think when I started I had at least one more thing to say to you but I can’t think of it now. If I don’t think of it before I mail this in the morning, I don’t suppose it was very important anyway.
So long,
Donald
Fri. Morn.
I know now what one more thing I wanted to tell you. I wanted to tell you. I wanted to inform you about my sawed thumb. There’s no scab at all on it now and only a little area about half the size of the end of a lead pencil even looks unnatural. I think all of that will come off eventually and then you’ll have to look close to see that anything happened. Even the notch in the nail will be grown out in another couple of weeks.
