Wednesday Afternoon
Hello Family,
I won’t even intend to make this a very long letter but I just don’t want to go too many days go by without writing to you. We got back from the range this morning and I am on KP today. It may sound funny to be on KP and writing a letter but I got in on a pretty lucky day. Since some of the fellows are still firing on the range and some are here, it would be very hard to serve a regular meal. So they made sack lunches and gave them out to everyone. That makes the noon meal just a vacation for us KP’s and they are giving us a half hour or so off now. This is the first time I ever got any time off while on KP but I’m not kicking. Well I’ve got to go back to the kitchen now but I’ll try to write more tonight.
Wed Night
Now I’ll explain why I was cut off so short this afternoon. The truck that brings rations came and brought potatoes. These had to be peeled for supper so they yelled for us and cut my time shorter than I expected. But even at that what little time I did have helped out.
We got off tonight somewhere around 7:30 and of course I had to wash the KP stink off my body and the clothes I was wearing. We had to get up at 5:00 out on the range so with that and a day of KP you might guess that I want to make a pretty good night of sleeping tonight.
I was very glad to get your Sunday letter yesterday evening. The Chev. sure does look a lot better. But I can see that underneath the paint it really is the same car. Thanks a whole lot for the picture; I was very glad to see it. But I am getting quite a collection of pictures and I expect I’ll have to send most of them home one of these days. So I’ll send this back like I’ve been doing the rest of the pictures I don’t feel I can keep and enjoy them enough to pay for taking care of them. You understand I know.
I hope you are all well and getting along OK.
Love,
Donald
I about forgot the nurses! I remember Betty, of course, and the one in the center of that row. THere are one or two others that it seems I can remember but I’m not sure. Are there any of them that you remember especially?
