December 14,1945
Early Afternoon

Hello Folks,
While your letter is still fresh on my mind and before I get started on something else, I'll get a short letter written. The letter that you mailed on Wednesday morning got here this morning so it made as good time as mail ever has since I've been here. I don't know whether it was just a happen-so or not that Richard's letter took as long this time but it looks as if the route his mail takes is more crowded than the way yours comes. His letter came on Thursday this week and it used to not be uncommon at all to get it on Tuesday. I expect his mail goes through Chicago and it could be possible for it to be slowed down some there.
Your letter made me feel pretty good to hear about a few more of the fellows getting out of the service. I feel pretty sure of getting out myself and pretty lucky, too, to be back in the States where I can get out. If some of the rest of the TO men from Fort Campbell are getting out maybe even Charlie will get to be home before too near spring. As for my future; I haven't seen any official notices of it yet but I feel pretty confident that the points will drop to fifty for January. If they do I should be home by at least the first week of February which will give me time to get started to school. And this month is all but half gone now so Christmas and then January will be here before we realize it, almost.
And now I'd like for you to do me a little favor. I've been thinking about it for a couple of weeks but just didn't get to it. I'm sending some money and I'd like to have a bond bought in time to have the December date on it. My bond buying may be just about over but at least that's what I'd like to have happen to this. I can't feel that I've been much of a slacker on buying bonds, either. It might not be a bad idea to open a checking account with what I have left of my discharge money - after necessities are bought. Or at least maybe it could be put into someone else's account that has already been opened. You can think it over between now and the and, of course, I will too.
What sort of weather have you now? We had about two inches of snow last night so it looks like "White Christmas" here today. This is the most snow we've had so far. And speaking of Christmas, since I'll have to spend it long distance I'll start now by wishing you a - "Merry Christmas". So long,
Donald
