Dear Grandparents,
Well I’m in Ft. Bening now but the question is for how long and where to from here. This division is supposed to be broken up in the very near future. The men with fewest points will be put into outfits going overseas. Some will be left in outfits here and a few will be discharged. No one knows where the dividing lines will be made so there are all sorts of wild guesses about who will be sent where. It’s certain though that all of us will make a change of some kind.
There hasn’t been much training yet and I’ve a feeling it will continue to be that way. We are supposed to get Wednesday and Saturday afternoons off officially and besides that we’ve had several hours free, unofficially.
I’ve been taking care of the mail for the company since I’ve been back but that’ll be over in a few days. I got back before the regular mail clerk did so it fell to me to take over the job. Mail is pretty important you know. I don’t know what I’ll do when he takes back his job.
Boy it sure is hot weather down here. I read in one of Eulen’s letters that Georgia was having some pretty hot weather. But it didn’t mean nearly as much to me then as it does now. I didn’t do quite so bad today but I’ll bet I sweat as much yesterday as I did all the days I worked on top of the garage put together. Guess I didn’t work quite so hard
Well it will soon be a week since I left home but I’ve moved a good ways in that time. I traveled as fast going away as I did towards it. We got down here about the middle of the afternoon on Saturday.
I’ll bet by this time things begin to look a whole lot like school. I hope the roof men don’t mess things up too badly for you.
Hope I start getting some letters in another day or so now. It’ll be alright to write to me here and I’ll let you know any change as soon as possible.
God Bless you.
Your grandson,
Donald
