Sunday Afternoon
Hello Richard,
Maybe if I write you’ll find out at least where I am a little sooner than if you waited for mother to tell you. I’m here now but it seems that I won’t be for long. They are going to deactivate this division and send us in all directions. You might expect that though. Some will have the rare privilege of traveling again so you can imagine what sort of guesses are being made.
Until then we’ll be training but I’m not very worried about it. We have already been told that we’ll have Wednesday and Saturday afternoons off so it looks as if things will be a little different.
When I read Eulen’s letter that you had, he said it was hot down here. Somehow that did not mean much to me then but it sure does now. It’s almost like spending all of your time on top of the garage roof. Remember how hot that can get? I know I’ll be able to stand it but doing very strenuous work is really going to be a hot job.
I wonder what you have been doing to spend this afternoon. I wrote a letter home and besides that have been alternately napping and reading in the Reader’s Digest.
We are supposed to hear a talk tomorrow by the colonel. I sort of hope that he knows a little about our future to tell us. - Until then it will be quite alright to write but just don’t put in anything that would be any difference if it got mixed up in the mails. I just mean anything that we wouldn’t want lost. Good luck.
Your brother,
Donald
Now I’ve got to hunt for an envelope before I can mail this.
